A Fun Sunday at Sunway

16 December 2012

By Derek and Vinyse

We spent a hot and sunny afternoon at Sunway today. We got to ask the staff some follow-up questions from our first meeting yesterday, and got to play with the kids. Sunday is the only day of the week that they don’t have school, so they spend it doing fun activities (after school they have a lot of homework).

They start the morning with yoga, and then an afternoon dance class. The classes are separated by age – the older girls danced Kathak, the younger kids another type of traditional Indian dance, and the older boys had moves straight out of a Bollywood movie. As one of the three Danish volunteers was leaving after a three month visit, the kids all pitched in to prepare a special dinner for everyone – chowmein noodles! They were all very helpful and enthusiastic about dinner. The kids are really good with sharing and helping where they can, and have been instilled with good manners and values.
