Exploring Village Life – Sunway’s New Land

19 December 2012

By Derek and Vinyse

Today we visited Sunway Children’s Home and were brought to a piece of land that they are in the process of finalizing the sale of. It is 5 kilometres away from their current rented property, on the outskirts of a village near Bodh Gaya. The land has many acres and, when they took possession six months ago, they started growing wheat and pulses. The plan is to build a new home for Sunway’s children in the future. The next step is to map out the opportunities and challenges for the new land and determine where Paper Kite can contribute.

Once we were back, we spent some time touring the Bodh Gaya archaeological museum. Here they had numerous sculptures of Buddha, various Hindu gods, and the original stone pillars that surrounded the bodhi tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment. Bodh Gaya is definitely a place of great history, religious significance, and devotion. There is a Buddhist festival in town right now and the city is buzzing with people from all over the world and all walks of life, coming together to learn, meditate and pray.
